India, March 24 -- Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi has resigned from Congress and joined the BJP, a move that adds a new dimension to Assam's political scenario ahead of the Assembly elections. Speaker Om Birla approved his exit on March 24, effective from March 20.
Bordoloi officially quit Congress on March 17 and formally became a BJP member the next day. The party quickly declared him its candidate for Dispur, a constituency that houses the state's main administrative offices, including him in the BJP's first list of 88 nominees.
