Guwahati, July 20 -- The Assam government has unveiled Mission Senehjori, a key initiative under the Assam Budget 2026, to strengthen the state's Muga silk sector by converting discarded silk waste into high-value spun yarn. The programme aims to reduce wastage, improve resource utilisation and generate new employment opportunities.

Sharing details of the initiative on X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said nearly 40 per cent of Muga silk cocoons currently go unused due to the absence of proper processing facilities. Mission Senehjori is designed to address this gap by creating infrastructure to process the waste into commercially valuable spun yarn.
