Assam floods: Situation improves as affected population drops to 62,443
Guwahati, Aug. 16 -- The number of people affected by floods in Assam fell to 62,443 on Saturday as flooding declined in two more districts, leaving five districts affected.
No new flood-related deaths were recorded during the previous 24 hours, keeping this year's toll at 104, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.
Flooding was still reported in 235 villages spread across 16 revenue circles in Golaghat, Hojai, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Jorhat, according to the latest bulletin.
Nagaon accounted for the largest affected population at 33,332. Golaghat followed with 12,641 people, while Jorhat recorded 8,523 affected residents.
