Assam flood situation slightly improves, death toll rises to 66
Guwahati, July 26 -- The flood situation in eastern Assam has slightly improved on 26 July 2026 as the intensive rains stopped in most parts of the State on Saturday, but the death toll rose to 66 on Sunday morning, and hundreds of villages remain under water.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, nearly 7 lakh people in 12 districts were affected by the current wave of floods, with over 35,000 hectares of crop areas damaged and nearly 25,000 people arriving at hundreds of relief camps set up by the administrations.
Sivasagar district was the worst affected, with around three lakh sufferers, followed by Charaideo and Jorhat. Other flood-hit districts include Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Sonitp...
