Guwahati: Six women in a 126-member Assembly now make up the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly, even as women voters turned out in large numbers.

Women accounted for 49.97 per cent of the electorate and recorded a higher turnout of 86.50 per cent compared to men. However, this participation has not translated into proportional representation in the legislature.

The six women elected are Nilima Devi (Mangaldai, BJP), Seweli Mohilary (Kokrajhar, BPF), Ajanta Neog (Golaghat, BJP), Rupali Langthasa (Haflong, BJP), Baby Begum (Dhubri, Congress) and Diptimoyee Choudhury (Bongaigaon, AGP).
