Guwahati, May 4 -- Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog secured a decisive victory in the Golaghat assembly constituency, winning the seat for a record sixth consecutive term.

She defeated Congress candidate Bitupan Saikia by a margin of 43,759 votes, polling 1,02,212 votes against Saikia's 58,453 votes.

The result is being viewed as a strong endorsement of the BJP-led NDA government's development agenda in Assam, as the alliance moves closer to forming the government for a third straight term under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
