Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma questions evidence in hate speech PIL, seeks dismissal

Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the Gauhati High Court to direct the petitioners in a hate speech-related PIL to furnish original documents and complete unedited transcripts of the speeches and interviews cited against him before he files a detailed response in the matter.
In an affidavit-in-opposition filed in PIL No. 14/2026, Sarma questioned the authenticity and completeness of the materials submitted by the petitioners, alleging that only photocopies of newspaper reports containing "one or two isolated lines" had been annexed before the court.
