Digboi: Two high-profile elephant-related cases-the death of an elephant calf during a treatment camp in Doomdooma and the failure to recover a poached tusk in Lakhipathar, have brought Assam's Forest Department under scrutiny, with sources indicating that Uttar Pradesh-based NGO Wildlife SOS (WSOS) has been disengaged from elephant-related projects in the state following the fallout from the Doomdooma incident.
According to Forest Department sources, the reported decision follows the death of a 13-month-old elephant calf that underwent treatment during a health check-up camp conducted under the Doomdooma Forest Division in April. The calf reportedly died within 24 hours of the intervention...
