Guwahati: Assam's famed GI-tagged Tezpur litchi has taken a significant step towards international recognition with its first export consignments reaching overseas markets, drawing praise from Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

Highlighting the achievement, Goyal said the export initiative marks a new chapter for farmers in Assam and the wider Northeast, enabling them to access global markets and secure improved returns for their produce. He noted that the maiden consignment of Tezpur litchi was dispatched to Dubai with support from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
