Guwahati, Sept. 7 -- A man who had brought his mother to Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) in Guwahati for treatment died after a concrete slab from an under-construction section of the hospital allegedly fell on him.

The deceased has been identified as Monowar Ali Sheikh, a resident of Golakganj in western Assam's Dhubri district.

According to the family sources, Monowar was accompanying his mother, Marjina Begum, at the cancer institute when a portion of the roof slab from an adjoining under-construction building collapsed and struck him.

He suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for emergency treatment, but succumbed to his injuries there.
