Guwahati, Aug. 18 -- The Madhya Assam Koch-Rajbongshi Students Union on August 18 urged the Assam government to immediately halt alleged illegal hill mining activities in central Assam.

The organisation submitted a four-point memorandum to Assam Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah through Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Debashis Sharma, seeking action against alleged illegal mining and measures to protect central Assam from recurring floods.

The students' body alleged that illegal mining in the name of stone quarrying is being carried out in several hills of Karbi Anglong and Jagiroad by a person identified as R.S. Gandhi. It demanded that the alleged activities be stopped immediately.
