Guwahati, July 28 -- The Assam government has decided to withdraw all police cases filed in connection with protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET (UG) examination and begin the process of releasing those arrested during the demonstrations.

An official order stated that five police cases had been registered across the state by 6 pm on July 26, 2026, leading to the arrest of 13 individuals.

The decision follows a review of the circumstances surrounding the protests. The government said it had chosen to end legal proceedings while prioritising reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability and governance in the examination and higher education system.
