Guwahati, Aug. 25 -- The Assam government has officially renamed the 'Mini Secretariat, Barak Valley' as the 'Assam Secretariat Barak Valley, Silchar', following approval by the state Cabinet.

The government issued the notification on August 21, with the new name taking effect immediately. The notification also specifies the departments that will operate from the administrative centre in Silchar.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said that 32 of the state's 59 departments would function from the Barak Valley Secretariat. The move is aimed at improving administrative access and strengthening governance and development initiatives in the region.
