Digboi, July 10 -- The death of an 87-year-old woman at her residence near Hindu Milan Mandir under Digboi Police Station in Assam's Tinsukia district on Friday has prompted a police investigation after neighbours alleged that she was subjected to physical and mental abuse by her family members.

The woman reportedly died inside her residence. Neighbours alleged that she was assaulted by her son, identified as Kanu Ranjan Deori, shortly before her death. They also claimed that she had faced repeated physical assault, intimidation and neglect over the years.
