Guwahati, July 19 -- Assam and Mizoram have decided to strengthen tourism ties through joint initiatives aimed at attracting more visitors to destinations across the Northeast.

The understanding was reached during talks between Assam Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog and Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar at Neog's official residence in Guwahati on Saturday, officials said.

During the discussions, Hmar said tourism in Mizoram has gained momentum since the state was connected to the railway network in September last year.

He noted that Assam contributes the highest number of visitors to Mizoram, making closer collaboration between the two states important for sustaining this growth.
