Guwahati: Indian Army personnel safely neutralised an old mortar shell in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang district, with officials stating that the explosive is believed to be linked to the 1962 India-China war.

The device was recovered on Thursday afternoon from the Lebrang locality under Tawang township, prompting authorities to step up security in the surrounding area immediately after the discovery.

After receiving the alert from local police, civil administration units and Army teams worked together at the site, which was quickly secured and restricted to prevent any risk to civilians.
