Guwahati, July 23 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has begun its inquiry into the death of a 15-year-old Chakma girl employed as a domestic help in Arunachal Pradesh, while the Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Youth Association (APCYA) has urged the agency to also investigate allegations of extortion linked to attempts to settle the case.

The CBI, Kolkata Zone, registered FIR No. RC0562026S0002 on July 15 following directions issued by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to the Arunachal Pradesh government regarding the death of the girl on December 11, 2025, in Roing, Lower Dibang Valley district.

The investigation is being conducted on the ground by a CBI team headed by Inspector Rahul Shukla.
