India, Sept. 14 -- Zambian authorities have cancelled the passports of six government critics, prompting Amnesty International to accuse the authorities of using administrative powers to restrict dissent and freedom of movement.
Six Critics Affected
The passports of former Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia and former Permanent Representative to the African Union Emmanuel Mwamba, historian and academic Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa, former opposition MPs Binwell Mpundu and Emmanuel Jay Banda, former State House Special Assistant Kaizer Zulu, and blogger Lillian Mutambo were cancelled on September 11.
The authorities cited "national security" in issuing the cancellation notice.
