India, Aug. 13 -- About 26 million children across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union were exposed to unusually high wildfire-related carbon emissions over the past month, with millions still facing polluted air as fires continue to burn, Save the Children said on August 12.
Millions Face Unusually High Pollution
Hot and dry conditions, intensified by climate change, fueled hundreds of wildfires near populated areas from early July to early August. Save the Children said around 15 million children lived in areas experiencing "extremely unusual" carbon emission levels compared with averages recorded between 2003 and 2025.
