India, Aug. 31 -- Emergency aid is being prepared for communities in Nepal's remote Himalayan region after devastating flash floods swept through villages, destroyed farmland and cut off several areas from outside access. Welthungerhilfe has released 100,000 from its emergency relief fund to support the initial response.
Thousands of Households Need Assistance
The flash floods struck the Bhote Koshi river system near Nepal's border with Tibet, sending torrents of mud and water downstream. Many families dependent on agriculture have lost homes, fields and crops, leaving them without both shelter and livelihoods.
