India, Aug. 25 -- Volunteer pilots in Colombia have stepped in to deliver doctors, medicines and emergency supplies to isolated communities after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake damaged infrastructure and disrupted access across the country's western and Pacific regions.
Small aircraft fill critical gap
Damage at Pereira's airport halted commercial flights, but smaller aircraft operated by Patrulla Aerea Civil Colombiana, or PAC, were able to continue flying humanitarian missions.
PAC, a volunteer organisation with about 70 pilots and roughly 20 aircraft, quickly mobilised after the August 10 earthquake. The disaster killed more than 300 people and affected major cities as well as remote communities in Choco and Colombia's Pacific region.
