India, Aug. 10 -- Venezuela's decision to withdraw from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court has triggered renewed calls for international scrutiny and accountability over alleged crimes against humanity committed in the country.
ICC Investigation Remains Active
Amnesty International said the withdrawal, formally deposited by Venezuela on July 24 and made public through a UN treaty repository on August 6, does not affect the ongoing investigation by the ICC Prosecutor's Office into crimes committed before the decision. The withdrawal is scheduled to take effect on July 24, 2027. Events occurring before that date also remain within the scope outlined by the rights group.
