India, Sept. 3 -- Tunisia's Court of Cassation is set to hear the final appeal on September 3 in a controversial "conspiracy" case involving dozens of opposition politicians, lawyers and human rights defenders convicted on state security charges.
Final Chance to Challenge Convictions
Amnesty International said the hearing represents a final judicial opportunity to overturn convictions that followed what it described as a mass trial marked by serious fair trial violations. The rights group has urged Tunisian authorities to reverse the sentences and release those arbitrarily detained.
