India, Oct. 7 -- Sudan's next harvest could determine how severely hunger worsens in 2027, with conflict, displacement, erratic rainfall and drought threatening food production during the critical October-to-January period.
Nearly 29 Million Face Acute Food Insecurity
The Sudan Food Security and Livelihoods Cluster estimates that nearly 29 million people are already facing acute food insecurity. Famine has been confirmed repeatedly in parts of Sudan over the past two years, while several other areas remain at risk.
Humanitarian organisations warn that a failed harvest could intensify food shortages, disease and economic hardship as households lose both access to food and opportunities to earn income.
