India, Aug. 18 -- Russia has sentenced opposition politician Lev Shlosberg to 11 years and one month in a penal colony, intensifying concerns over the shrinking space for anti-war political expression ahead of parliamentary elections.
Shlosberg Convicted Over Anti-War Statements
The Pskov City Court handed down the sentence on August 17 against Shlosberg, deputy chairman of the Yabloko party. He was convicted of repeatedly "discrediting" Russia's armed forces and spreading allegedly false information about the military.
