India, Sept. 3 -- Russian authorities have detained prominent charity leader and civil society activist Lidiya "Lida" Moniava over social media posts concerning the war in Ukraine, prompting Amnesty International to condemn the criminal case as an attack on freedom of expression.
Detention And Criminal Case
Moniava was detained in Moscow on September 2 under Article 207.3 of Russia's Criminal Code, which criminalises the alleged public dissemination of knowingly false information about the armed forces. Her home was searched before she was questioned by investigators.
