India, Nov. 2 -- Oxfam reacted on Oct. 30, 2026 to the United Nations Security Council failing to renew the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara in Western Sahara, with Marco Di Cecco, Oxfam’s Country Director in Algeria leading the Western Sahara refugee response, issuing a statement.
Security Council action and MINURSO mandate
Di Cecco said the Security Council’s failure to renew MINURSO’s mandate marked “a significant setback” for the Sahrawis, stating that their “right to self-determination remains unfulfilled after five decades,” and that generations of Sahrawis continue to live in displacement.
He said Sahrawis “must not be allowed to bear the consequences of international political inaction.”...
