India, Aug. 31 -- Families displaced by devastating flash floods in Nepal are facing growing health and safety concerns as overcrowded temporary shelters struggle to accommodate a rising number of children and survivors.
Children Crowd Into Stretched Facilities
Save the Children said shelters in flood-hit areas are coming under increasing pressure, with the number of children at one holding centre in Nuwakot doubling from 30 to 60 in a single afternoon as more families arrived.
The disaster began on August 26 when a glacier collapse triggered a torrent of rock, ice, mud and debris through Himalayan river systems. More than 700 people have been killed and over 2,400 remain unaccounted for, according to figures cited by the organisation.
