India, Aug. 18 -- National aid workers have borne the overwhelming share of violence against humanitarian personnel over the past five years, with nearly 3,500 affected by killings, detentions, kidnappings or serious injuries, according to new analysis by Save the Children.
National Staff Carry the Greatest Risk
Save the Children's analysis of Aid Worker Security Database figures found that about 3,496 national aid workers were victims of major attacks between August 1, 2021 and the end of July 2026. By comparison, 134 international staff were affected, meaning national personnel accounted for about 96% of recorded victims during the period.
