India, Aug. 27 -- When fighting intensified around Taiz, Yemen, Safaa and her family fled their home on foot, eventually reaching Lahj after a journey of more than 180 kilometres. With their savings exhausted and no reliable income, the displaced mother struggled to provide for eight children while expecting another baby.
From Displacement to Crisis
The family initially found shelter in a camp established by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). Safaa's husband earned money through casual labour, but a workplace accident left him with a spinal injury and unable to work.
With the household suddenly without income, Safaa was forced to withdraw her sons from school so they could take up casual work and help meet basic needs.
