India, Oct. 6 -- The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo's North Kivu province has intensified sharply, with the region now accounting for nearly 40% of newly confirmed cases nationwide as new hotspots emerge each week.

Doctors Without Borders, or MSF, said North Kivu's share of new confirmed cases has risen from 24% at the end of August to nearly 40%, highlighting a rapid shift in the outbreak's geography. The organisation described the situation as increasingly difficult to contain as transmission continues in multiple locations.
