India, Oct. 8 -- More than 1,900 children in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo have lost or been separated from one or both parents or caregivers since an Ebola outbreak was declared in May, UNICEF said, warning that the figures could be higher.

Ituri Records Most Affected Children

As of September 28, UNICEF had identified 1,581 affected children in Ituri and another 322 in North Kivu. The agency said the figures cover only areas where it works with provincial social affairs teams, meaning many children may remain unidentified.
