India, Oct. 8 -- A young man of possible Haitian origin died after being shot during a migration operation in Veron, Punta Cana, on October 3, prompting Amnesty International to call for a prompt, independent and impartial investigation.

According to media reports cited by Amnesty, the man was shot by an officer from the Dominican Republic's General Directorate of Migration during the operation. He suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and reportedly died from haemorrhagic shock linked to the injury, based on a preliminary medical assessment.
