India, Aug. 13 -- Direct Relief is expanding emergency health support across the United States and Venezuela as wildfires, earthquakes and severe weather systems create urgent medical needs in affected communities. The organisation is also preparing for a potential tropical cyclone approaching Hawai'i.
Storm Threat Prompts Hawai'i Preparations
Forecasters are monitoring a system roughly 1,000 miles southeast of Hawai'i that has a 90% chance of strengthening into a tropical cyclone within 48 hours. Heavy rain is expected to reach the islands by Friday, with rainfall of 5 to 10 inches forecast in many areas and isolated totals potentially reaching 20 inches.
