India, Aug. 31 -- Severe flooding has ravaged Nepal's Trishuli River Valley, killing around 273 people and leaving nearly 1,000 others missing across Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts, according to Action Against Hunger. The disaster has also destroyed homes and vital infrastructure, leaving affected communities in urgent need of safe water, sanitation and food assistance.

The flooding has been linked to a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, a sudden release of water caused when a moraine dam holding back a glacial lake collapses. Action Against Hunger said accelerated glacier melt, combined with rainfall at high elevations, can contribute to the accumulation of water behind such natural barriers.
