India, Aug. 6 -- Amnesty International has called for the immediate release of Chinese activist Zhang Yi, saying his arrest in Tibet over displaying a photograph of the Dalai Lama represents a violation of the right to peaceful expression.
Arrest Linked to Monastery Visit
According to Amnesty International, Zhang Yi was detained after allegedly showing a photograph of the Dalai Lama to a Tibetan devotee during a visit to Sera Monastery in Lhasa. The rights group said he was later placed under criminal detention on suspicion of "inciting separatism", arguing that the allegation stems solely from the peaceful exercise of his human rights.
