India, Aug. 10 -- More than 85,000 people have been forced to evacuate as wildfires continue to affect communities in Washington state, prompting CARE to provide emergency supplies focused on women, infants and families in the Spokane area.
Thousands Displaced by Fires
The wildfires have destroyed more than 600 homes, while around 28,000 additional homes remain threatened, according to CARE. Many displaced residents left with few belongings, creating an urgent need for basic household and personal care supplies.
Heavy smoke and soot are also raising health concerns, particularly for pregnant women, infants and young children. CARE said these groups often have specific needs that can be overlooked during disaster response.
