India, Sept. 2 -- Belarusian authorities have expanded their crackdown on the European Humanities University (EHU), targeting students studying in Lithuania as well as their relatives and associates inside Belarus, Amnesty International said, warning that the campaign is increasingly extending beyond the country's borders.
Students And Families Face Pressure
According to Amnesty, dozens of people have faced searches, interrogations, detention and threats as authorities seek to pressure EHU students abroad into leaving the university or returning to Belarus. Former and current students have reportedly described being questioned by KGB officers, threatened with prosecution and, in some cases, pressured to become secret informants.
