India, Aug. 26 -- Amnesty International has warned that Meta's advertising moderation system may be failing to stop election-related disinformation on Facebook ahead of Brazil's presidential election on October 4.

Eight misleading ads approved

Amnesty International conducted an experiment by submitting 15 mock advertisements in Brazilian Portuguese to Facebook, targeting Brazil's voting-age population. Fourteen of the ads contained election-related disinformation, while one was neutral.

The rights group said Facebook approved eight of the misleading ads. The remaining seven were flagged for identity verification because they concerned social issues, elections or politics, rather than being explicitly rejected for containing disinformatio...
