India, July 22 -- Amnesty International has condemned a proposed Russian law that would significantly expand the government's powers to prosecute and penalise critics living outside the country, describing the measure as an attempt to suppress dissent beyond Russia's borders.

According to Amnesty, the draft legislation would allow Russian authorities to initiate legal proceedings against people outside the country for a broad range of administrative offences, including actions linked to criticism of state institutions and Russia's military.
