India, Aug. 6 -- Amnesty International has urged African governments to reject any cooperation with the United States' policy of transferring migrants and refugees to third countries, describing the practice as discriminatory and incompatible with international human rights obligations.
Concerns Over Forced Transfers
Amnesty highlighted the case of 17 people, including Turkish, Afghan and Iranian nationals, who were forcibly removed from the United States on 12 June and flown to the Central African Republic, despite having no personal or linguistic ties to the country. According to the organisation, all but one of those transferred had previously received protection in the US against being returned to their countries of origin.
