India, Aug. 14 -- Nearly one in 10 children under five in Afghanistan is now suffering from acute malnutrition, while shrinking humanitarian funding is forcing the closure or suspension of hundreds of health facilities, Save the Children said on August 13.
Malnutrition Rises Across Provinces
Acute malnutrition among young children has increased by 14% over the past four years, reaching an estimated 3.7 million children in 2026. The situation has worsened in two thirds of Afghanistan's provinces during the second quarter compared with the same period last year, with infectious diseases contributing to the rise.
The crisis comes as humanitarian assistance has sharply declined. Funding fell from $3.27 billion in 2022 to $1 billion in 2025. ...
