New Delhi, July 14 -- Indian Railways has decided to install CCTV cameras in all passenger coaches and locomotives across the country, following the positive outcome of pilot installations. The move is aimed at strengthening passenger safety and deterring miscreants and organised gangs that often exploit unsuspecting travellers.
To ensure privacy, CCTV cameras will be installed only in common movement areas near the coach doors, allowing surveillance without intruding into private spaces.
A review meeting held on Saturday, 12 July 2025, reviewed the progress of the initiative. It was confirmed that CCTV systems will be installed in all 74,000 coaches and 15,000 locomotives.
