New Delhi, April 22 -- Secretary (West) Sibi George delivered India's national statement at the General Debate of the 2026 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development follow-up at the United Nations Headquarters.
He emphasised the need for a fair, inclusive, and development-oriented global financial system to address the estimated $4 trillion financing gap required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Highlighting key priorities, he called for reforms in International Financial Institutions (IFIs), greater representation and voice for the Global South, and the effective deployment of digital public infrastructure to accelerate development outcomes.
