New Delhi, Aug. 21 -- Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, along with the Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha.

Shah said the Constitutional Amendment Bill reflects the Modi government's commitment to fight political corruption and responds to growing public anger over leaders continuing in office while facing serious criminal cases. The bill seeks to ensure that individuals holding constitutional positions such as the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers of the Centre and States cannot run governments from jail.
