New Delhi, July 28 -- The Delhi Government has announced a substantial increase in financial assistance for Kanwar committees across all categories ahead of the annual Kanwar Yatra, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stating that the decision has been taken to ensure better facilities and convenience for millions of Shiva devotees.

Describing the Kanwar Yatra as a grand celebration of Sanatan culture, faith and devotion, the Chief Minister said the grant for large Kanwar camps operating for 6-12 days and spread over more than 20,000 sq ft has been increased from Rs.11 lakh to Rs.15 lakh. For camps of the same size operating for 3-5 days, the assistance has been enhanced from Rs.6 lakh to Rs.9 lakh.
