New Delhi, Sept. 23 -- The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Delhi police on the bail application filed by Umar Khalid and others in connection with the case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in relation to the 2020 North East Delhi riots. The matter is listed for October 7.Earlier, this month, The Delhi High Court denied bail to by Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and seven other accused persons in connection with the 2020 riots case in North East Delhi.

The division bench emphasized that while citizens have the constitutional right to engage in peaceful protests and deliver speeches at public gatherings, such freedoms are not absolute and remain subject to reasonable restrictions.
