New Delhi, April 2 -- The Census 2027, the world's largest census exercise, has begun with the Government of India commencing Phase I - Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO), marking the start of the country's largest administrative and statistical exercise. This is India's first-ever census with digital data capture and a Self-Enumeration facility.

The national enumeration exercise was initiated with President Droupadi Murmu completing self-enumeration, continuing the tradition of beginning the process with the First Citizen. Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah also completed their enumeration online, with the Prime Minister appealing to citizens to participate actively.
