New Delhi, July 28 -- India's 19-year-old chess prodigy Divya Deshmukh from Nagpur on Monday won the FIDE Women's World Cup 2025 in Batumi, Georgia. She defeated fellow Indian Koneru Humpy and became a Grandmaster in the process.

With this achievement, Divya has become the fourth Indian woman to earn the title of Grandmaster and the 88th Grandmaster of the country. She now follows Humpy, R. Vaishali, and Harika Dronavalli in taking the prestigious Grandmaster title.

Divya's victory came after the two classical games played on Saturday and Sunday ended in draws. On Monday, in the time-controlled tie-breaker, she was again held to a draw, but in the reverse game, she managed to overcome the two-time world rapid champion 2.5-1.5.
