New Delhi, Aug. 11 -- Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, senior bureaucrat and 1993-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, was appointed as Higher Education Secretary. A notice issued by Department of Personnel and Training on 10 August announced the top-level bureaucratic reshuffle.

This comes almost a month after Vineet Joshi was appointed as the Secretary of Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The appointment of Mukerjee comes in the backdrop of NEET UG paper leak controversy.
